The Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center, a critical resource of the Community, provides excellent early education and socialization in a safe, nurturing environment for children between the ages of 18 months and five years.
Our research-based curriculum for toddlers through prekindergarteners helps children achieve developmental milestones in early literacy, mathematics, problem solving, and other skills, as well as in social-emotional growth, building a foundation for future learning and success. At the Center, children learn, explore and create.
The Center also offers programs for parents and early intervention support services, and partners with a variety of community organizations.
Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center has provided a solid educational start for more than 4,000 children at our Gingerbread Lane Extension, East Hampton, site.
In addition to the Toddler and Junior Prekindergarten programs for children from 18 months to five years old, the Center, located adjacent to the John M. Marshall Elementary School in the Village of East Hampton, provides full-day prekindergarten classes for the East Hampton, Wainscott, and Sagaponack school districts.
The Center’s academic and social-emotional curriculums for children and programs for families involve partnerships with top universities and institutions, including the State University of New York at Old Westbury and the Yale Child Study Center, and are carried out by qualified, credentialed teachers.
The only not-for-profit educational organization providing full-day, year-round child care in East Hampton, the Center is open Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., providing flexibility for working families. We remain open during the summer but are closed during the school year vacation breaks, according to the public school schedule.
Approximately 100 children attend the Center each day. Teacher-to-student ratios are in compliance with, or exceed, state standards.
Children are provided with two nutritious hot meals and two healthy snacks daily.
Our qualified, bilingual staff serves a diverse community, and our services are offered at reasonable fees for working parents, with financial assistance provided when possible.
In 2017, EWECC is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its successful early childhood education program.
